Quick-learner David Moyes is growing into the role of Manchester United manager
When United secured a point at home to Chelsea earlier this season, I felt fairly relieved. This was the first of a tough string of games for new manager David Moyes and it was important we didn’t lose. However, in that game, we were incredibly cautious, and certainly looked as though we were more keen not to lose than we were to win.
Our tactics against City were poor, although there wasn’t much Moyes could have done about the shocking individual errors made by our defenders, and it was disappointing to see how fearful we looked going in to that game. Moyes has been learning all the time though, making slight adjustments to his starting team and approach every week, and it makes sense that he wasn’t going to hit the ground running after making the move from a relatively small club to Manchester United.
Today, we saw just what a fast learner Moyes is, when he put out a team and suitable tactics to get a win against the side that started the weekend eight points clear of us.
