Parliament rejects Uhuru's TSC nominees
The hope was that the new commissioners were going to jumpstart pay reviews and review the TSC code of conduct. The teachers’ unions in the country already warned that some teachers may face injustice for lack of handicapped TSC which currently has three commissioners.
The rejection of the nominees came after a long-drawn chaotic debate at which the chairperson of the Education Committee Sabina Chege said she had been threatened by a fellow MP and warned not to step in some areas of Murang’a County. Chege, the Woman Representative for Murang’a County did not mention the MP who had threatened him.
The MPs also absolved President Uhuru Kenyatta for the illegal process that led to the picking of the nominees, and instead blamed an unnamed powerful person in government who served in the Kibaki regime for altering the recommendations of the selection panel. The MPs also attacked the educationist James Kamunge panel that conducted the exercise.They said a fresh panel has to be formed and the process repeated....
