Kalonzo presses on with referendum calls
Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka on Sunday continued with the popularisation of the quest for referendum to increase funding to the counties. Mr Musyoka said devolution will only be realised if Kenyans are allowed to enshrine the 40 per cent monies to the counties in the constitution. Speaking in Mwingi where he attended the homecoming ceremony of Mwingi Central County Assembly member Benard Munyasya and later at St Paul’s Ikanga Catholic Church in Kitui South, the Wiper party leader added there is need to safeguard the gains attained by the new constitution and Kenyans should be ready to sacrifice their time and resources.
“When we were campaigning as Cord coalition we had promised that we will amend the constitution to empower the senate so that it can deliver its mandate to protect the county governments,” Mr Musyoka said. The former VP was accompanied by MPs Makali Mulu (Kitui Central), Bernard Kitungi (Mwingi West), Mutua Muluvi (Kitui East) and Rachael Nyamai (Kitui South) and Kitui county assembly speaker George Ndotto and several Assembly members from Kitui and Makueni counties....
