Cash to the poor scheme receives Sh850m boost
International Monetary Fund (IMF) African Department Director Antoinette Sayeh with World Bank Country Director Ms. Kenya’s cash transfer to the poor has received a Sh850 million boost from the World Bank. World Bank country director for Kenya Diarietou Gaye said the boost was part of a comprehensive national safety net to reduce poverty in Kenya.
“It is very encouraging that regular cash transfers to households with orphans are helping to protect these children from the worst effects of extreme poverty,” Ms Gaye said. In this financial year, the government said it would use Sh13.4 billion to cushion the poor, orphans, albinos and the elderly besides supporting bright but needy students in school....
