Red Cross wants Tana river declared a disaster zone
The Kenya Red Cross Society has called on the government to come up with long term solutions to problems faced by residents of Tana river. Society Secretary General Abbas Gullet says the volatile region should be declared a disaster zone and resources allocated to mitigate the problems. Speaking during a tour of the region Gullet said a team of medical officers from the society have been dispatched to the area to provide medical help to the residents.
Speaking during the Tana River county nurse’s week celebration, Yese said the hospital is strained and struggling to offer quality services due to the shortage. She said insecurity in the region has led to poor standards of education which in turn has affected the number of students willing to take up the nursing course....
