Nairobi governor Evans Kidero said a civic sensitization programme will be launched to enlighten residents on the need to use footbridges. Nairobi residents have been urged to end what has been termed as low attitude towards using footbridges to avoid unnecessary deaths and injuries on highways. Principal Secretary for roads Engineer John Mosonik warned those engaging in vandalism of public installations that their days are numbered.
The leaders who were speaking during the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the first 2 of 5 footbridges at balle vue and general motors’ inter-junctions along Mombasa road observed that ignorance of pedestrians has led to worrying death statistics. Engineer Mosonik said his ministry was spending 1.2 million shillings per month on maintenance and surveillance of road installations and those engaging in vandalism of the same will be dealt with mercilessly.
