Tanzanian protesters claim Islam under attack
Supporters of Sheikh Ponda Issa Ponda donate money on August 18 at Mwembe Yanga grounds in Dar es Salaam to cover expenses for his treatment and legal requirements for the pending case. Supporters of controversial Tanzanian cleric Sheikh Ponda Issa Ponda have claimed their leader is being persecuted in order to weaken Islam in the country and warned that any attack on the man would be construed as one on all Muslims. In a rally attended by hundreds in Dar es Salaam's Temeke District Sunday, several Muslim clerics who are sympathisers of Sheikh Ponda described the tribulations that the cleric is going through as part of a wider scheme to frustrate his efforts to defend the rights of Muslims.
