11 Malagasy presidential candidates expected to resign
At least 11 candidates eyeing the Malagasy presidency are expected to resign from their current positions to meet the Monday poll deadline. The Special Electoral Court (CES) had directed the candidates to quit their offices or be locked out of the October 25 contest. The first round of the presidential election is scheduled for October 25, while the second will take place on December 20 simultaneously with the legislative polls, according to the calendar issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission of the transition (CENIT) last week.
Prime Minister Omer Beriziky proposed to replace the resigned ministers with their general secretaries.
